There's been a deadly attack at Woolwich Barracks in south-east London near the Prime Minister's of office. According to reports, two men armed with knives, meat cleaver and other weapons attacked a man believed to be a serving soldier, hacked him to death, dragged his body into the middle of the road and then asked people standing by to film them. The two attackers were gunned down by policemen who arrived the scene 20 minutes later following a phone call. One was air lifted and said to be in a critical condition while the other was carried by road ambulance; the two arebeing treated in a new by local hospital. The Home Secretary, Theresa May, who had summoned a government's emergency meeting to discuss the incident described the attackas "sickening and barbaric" while the British Prime Minister, David Cameron who had been planning to spend a night in Paris after a meeting with the French President had returned home to take part of the government's emergency meeting known as Cobra following the horrendous incident. The Prime Minister while in France also described it as sickening and appalling and vowed that the nation will never buckle under such attacks. The terrorists who killed in retribution for Muslim deaths made some political statements after the killing, and the footage shown on the ITV website shows a man, dressed in a grey hooded jacket with bloody hands also with a knife and meat cleaver, saying: "We must fight them as they fightus. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." He added: "I apologise that women have had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people willnever be safe. Remove your government, theydon't care about you." On Twitter, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson described the attack as a"sickening deluded and unforgivable act of violence". Eye witnesses say that this guys were crazed and behaved like animals as they were seemed to be obliviousto a lot of things except only being interested in having their actions recorded.

Life is full of surprises, sometimes it works according to your plans, sometimes it doesn't. Some eat in basins but look like sticks while some just take the bites but look as if they're going to explode within seconds. Why do you want to kill yourself fornothing? It might not be your turn today doesn't mean that your turn will never come...God knows how He does it. G

ACN is a shame to this country! Can't they ever keep quiet when not knowing what to say? All those criticising President Goodluck Jonathan for declaring a state of emergency in the volatile states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa are real enemies of this country. It's very sad and unfortunate that these disgruntled people would do nothing to help proffer solution to the insecurity problems rocking the northern parts of the country butto sit down and attack and criticise destructively the administration of his presidency with no just justification. If he does this, they'd attack; does that, they'd criticise and when he doesn't, yet this bunch of confusionists would still find something to condemne him. I wonder what then this sect of individuals really wants for Nigeria!

Following the directives by His Excellency, the Commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan, that all the detained women in connection with terrorist charges be released in furtherance of the Federal Government of Nigeria position in response to requests by its Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Reconciliation, the Defence Headquarters has kick-started the process of releasing of a number of persons being held in -related to terrorist activities across the northern part of the country. According to the Director of Defense Communication, Brig. Gen Chris Olukolade, thePresident's directives have been passed to the field units and the Joint Task Force. The suspected terrorists will be released to their states governors who will further carry out rehabilitation programmes before these suspected terrorists can be released to their respective community leaders and relations. Here is Gen Chris Olukolade's full statement: “Consequent upon the directives of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Defence Headquarters will be releasing from detention a number of persons being held in connection with terrorist activities. “The move is in furtherance of the Federal Government position in response to requests by the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Reconciliation. The measure which is in line with Presidential magnanimity to enhance peace efforts in the country will result in freedom for suspects including all women under custody.” The Defence spokesman added: “Details of the directives and those to benefit from this gesture have been communicated to field units and the Joint Task Force. “The beneficiaries will be released to the state governors who will be involved in further rehabilitation before these suspects are released to their respective community leaders/relations.” What do you make of this development? Would the government's dual or double-approach stance on its pursuit against terrorism enhance the amnesty programme it embarks upon and proffer a lasting solution to the insecurity challenges facing the country? Is this a step in the right direction?
