A Port Harcourt-based bishop (names withheld) was paraded before the newsmen yesterday by the Rivers State police command for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl.
The Cleric, although admitted having a carnal knowledge of the underaged teenager, said he was hypnotized as well as set up by a fellow bishop.
He said his ordeal was a calculated attempt by another bishop in whose office the incident transpired, adding that plot to ensnare and embarrass him was borne out of an envy by a brother bishop who had been dragging the office of the chairmanship of all bishops in the state, a post he (the accused bishop) currently occupied.
The accused also denied reports that he assisted in aborting the pregnancy that resulted from the immoral act with the teenager, alleging that it was the girl’s father who did the abortion, while he, the bishop, paid for the cost.
“We have different colleges of bishops. I am the chairman of Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually happened was a set-up. It was set up by my enemies. I have so many people who are my enemies. The man who is in-charge of where I went tominister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up.
“He invited me to his church for a programme. And, after the programme, he set me up because of what we are dragging. We are dragging chairmanship of the communion and that was why he set me up.
“I was surprised when I saw her pulling off her skirt and others. But, before you knew it, I had a carnal knowledge of her. That is the truth of the matter.
“She started laughing at me. She said ‘are you angry?’ I told her that I did not know what she had hypnotized me for. She said I should not bother. I was so angry and annoyed that I called some of my pastors and made a confession that I did not know what was happening,” he said

Maradona: Brazil Would Not Have Beaten Spain On Neutral Ground
The 52-year old Argentina legend believes that Brazil wouldn't have beaten Spain in the final of the just concluded Fifa Confederations Cup hosted by Brazil had the match been played at a neutral venue.
The European and world champions were convincingly beaten 3-0 at the Maracana Stadium, thanks to a brace from Fred and the last goal from no other person than Neymar himself when he brilliantly combined with the skillful Oscar before cleverly pulling back himself from a suspected off-side position and then superbly slammed a toe-pass from the Chelsea star into the right side of the post. But the 52-year-old feels the hostile environment affected Vicente del Bosque's men.
"Spain were unlucky that the tournament was being played in Brazil. They looked promising. Brazil wouldn't have beaten them had the game been played on neutral ground," he told reporters on a visit to Indonesia.
The Napoli former playmaker then went on to hip praises on Lionel Messi and stressed that the Barcelona star is still a cut above Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Messi remains the best in the world. He is still a better player than Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo."
Maradona also had something to say about the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and he is hopeful that Argentina can emerge victorious in that tournament.
"Next year's World Cup belongs to South Americans. I hope Argentina will be crowned champions," he added.
Following this outbursts from Maradona, one can always sense there will surely be some sort of reaction from Pele since the two men sometimes seem to be highly overwhelmed by high sense of sentiments and emotions when it comes to star players coming from their respective homelands.
Surely, it's only a matter of time before we start hearing the Pele' own version of the counter outbursts!
